Weird car question

I did some minor googling but to no avail. Does anybody know if the Rav4 TRD suspension can go on the Rav4 Hybrid? All the car reviews praise the Hybrid drivetrain but prefer the TRD suspension. Seems like it should be easy to make a chimera of sorts right? They should just bolt right in?

Just a weird thought that popped into my head after wondering why they don’t offer at least a Rav4 Hybrid Adventure. Seems like it would just be a software change of how the electric rear delivers power, it’s not like the adventure is a super hardcore off- roader but I’m not a car engineer either.

It should, but maybe the rest drive module has different suspension. I'll take a look

Depending on how much extra weight the hybrid system adds , and where it’s located in the chassis, swapping in the TRD suspension may do more harm than good.

Came to say the same. Not too much difference, but it might be a factor.

That weight difference is not as bad as I thought, though the distribution could still be an issue. But this makes it at least somewhat more likely to be possible.

Good point about the weight distribution.

I’m interested to see what HHFP comes back with.

Rav4 XLE: 3480lbs

Rav 4 Adventure: 3600lbs

Rav4 Hybrid XSE: 3725lbs

Rav4 Prime XSE: 4300lbs

Per Toyota’s site, all are awd weights.

Based on that I’d comfortably swap between the gas and hybrid models but not to/from the prime.

Oooh good point, especially where the weight is would be a factor.

I’m thinking rear packaging with the batteries and electric motor would be different but maybe it’s a non factor in the rear suspension

Toyota is selling the heck out of this RAV4...

It’s a much more sensible buy than a TMY.

Along with what others have mentioned, I bet Toyota wanted to keep the hybrid system strictly on road and didn’t want people to do even light off roading due to possible damage to the hybrid system. And knowing how conservative Toyota is, they didn’t want to spend the marketing a nd manufacturing resources on it.

Probably, it’s also pretty niche at the moment to have hybrid and off-road. I was only thinking about it because multiple reviews have stated that they prefer the TRD suspension setup.

I bet they come out with it a hybrid adventure or TRD if the hybrid bronco sport sells well. The only thing that really seems to be lacking on any Rav4 is skid plates, but then again if you’re really off-roading do you get a Rav4?

Tesla Model Y...the hybrid does seem to be selling really well. I wish this applied to the Prime, but inventory and manufacturing outlook for that thing is a joke.

This might answer your question

https://eibach.com/us/c-713-product-releases-2019-2020-toyota-rav4.html

Eibach makes lift springs for the new RAV4 (real lift, not spacers) and they said its compatible with the hybrid.  As far as a strait strut swap...IDK.  You could get a hybrid and lift it though.

Awesome, Thanks! Definitely something to think about. I also noticed that they separated the normal, hybrid, adventure and TRD springs but that may just be because of where the springs already are for those models

yeah, if you look at the part numbers, they are the same for all.

The hybrid is almost a no brainer over the standard engine. To get more power, better mpgs than a standard corolla and sill have AWD is crazy when you think about it. It’s a bummer about the Prime but I wouldn’t buy the first model year or two of that anyways lol.

The Prime is already lifted an inch or two, so the batteries don’t compromise much (or any?) of the passenger and cargo space.
